Valeriu Beiu (S’92-M’95-SM’96) received the MSc in CE from the University Politehnica Bucharest (UPB), in 1980, and the PhD summa cum laude in EE from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL), in 1994.

He was with the Research Institute for Computer Techniques (1980-1983) prior to returning to UPB (1983-2001), and with KUL (1991-1994), King’s College London (1994–1996), Los Alamos National Laboratory (1996-1998), RN2R (1998-2001), Washington State University (2001-2005), United Arab Emirates University (2005-2015), while currently he is with “Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad. He was a PI or co-PI on research grants totaling over US$ 51M. He holds 11 patents, gave over 190 invited talks, organized over 110 conferences, chaired over 60 sessions, and authored 28 journal articles and 190 conference papers (35 invited). His research interests focus on biological-inspired nano-circuits and brain-inspired nano-architectures for VLSI-efficient designs (low-power and highly reliable).

Dr. Beiu has received five fellowships including Fulbright (1991), EU Human Capital & Mobility (1994-1996), LANL Director’s Postdoc (1996-1998), and Fellow of Rose Research (1999-2001). He is a member of IEEE, ACM, ENNS, INNS, MCFA, IEEE CS Task Force on Nanoarchitectures (2005), IEEE Emerging Tech Group on Nanoscale Communications (2009), and was a member of the SRC-NNI Working Group on Novel Nano-Architectures (since 2003). He was the Program Chairman of the IEEE LANL Section (1997), and an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks (2005-2008), the IEEE Transactions on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Systems (2011-2015), the Nano Communication Networks (2010-2015), and the recipient of seven Best Paper Awards.
