On eco-friendly digital currencies and why blockchain technology is misunderstood
Ciprian Pungila
Abstract: Blockchain technology has been around for a long time, but it only came into stronger focus in the past decade, mostly due to the explosion of the Internet, the population's growing interest in a decentralized economy, and technological advances that had created today a market of digital currencies worth over 2 trillion dollars. Nonetheless, the potential that blockchain technology offers goes beyond the traditional cryptocurrency market: future trends include eco-friendly digital currencies becoming the new norm, scientific progress that casts a technological shadow over older cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, and a growing consensus that understanding, regulating and improving blockchain technology is one step ahead towards a secure, trustworthy and reliable digital ecosystem.
